First Kiss
|
|
On Sunday, November 4, 2001 Hopa and Amadeus
met face to face for the first time. Previously they had been in separate
parts of the same pen, with Hopa in the small part (20 x 20) because of
her weakened condition.
The two have shown a great attachment to each other from the start,
even sleeping directly opposite from each other (with the fencing between
dividing the |
| pen separating them.) When Hopa came back
from the vets on Monday she ran to see him, and they nuzzled through the
fence. Even though we did not expect problems, we were prepared just
in case. We removed treats and food from Hopa's side of the
pen. We had catch poles and armored gloves at the ready. As an
added precaution Amadeus (by far the bigger and stronger of the two - but
also the easiest to handle) was put in a harness attached to a long lead.
We brought Amadeus through to meet Hopa. The two acted like they
have never been separated. They just calmly walked around the cage,
very comfortable with each other. Amadeus was far more interested in
finding the food items Hopa had buried around the pen than in anything
else. We removed the harness from Amadeus then everyone exited the
pen. They were both very calm about the whole thing. Hopa did
seem very happy to be near Amadeus, and he calmly lay near her |
